I'm on Team Werewolf Bootlegger

I’m on Team Werewolf. Find out more.

The ever fabulous Moira Rogers team of Bree & Donna are giving away an incredible prize to celebrate the release of two incredible stories: Sanctuary Unbound and A Safe Harbor. The awesome prize to be had a KINDLE (or $275 gift card to a bookstore of your choice)!! See details here

Sanctuary Unbound is one of my must buy books on June! This Red Rocks #4 book features the Vampire Lumberjack Adam Dubois as he workds with the folks of Red Rocks to hunt the vampire that is lurking in their territory. He and the resident doctor Cindy should steam up the pages in this one!

A Safe Harbor is the 1st in the new Building Sanctuary series, which takes place back during the great depression. Seamus, the werewolf bootlegger *sigh* with the help of some buddies must escort some females wolves to safety.

Now, the contest goes like this: YOU MUST PICK A SIDE!! Are you on Team Werewolf Bootlegger *cheer*, or Vampire Lumberjack *boo*? Leave your comment here with which side you choose, and be entered into the chance to win a Kindle!

So now, why did I choose werewolf bootlegger: 1. I love all things shifters, sure the thought of being able to provide the blood to keep a sexy vamp alive is somewhat sexy... but come on, a werewolf that gets all Alpha male protective, goes furry every now and then, and can grow claw and teeth to defend you? Who can turn that down?? 2. Why would anyone in their right mind choose a lumberjack over a bootlegger?? I don't need any firewood, I need my booze!!

So bring it on all you Vampire Lumberjack fans... My Werewolf Bootlegger is gonna take the cake!

Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise: An oldie by a Goodie!

Min Dobbs knows that happily-ever-after is a fairy tale, especially with a man like Cal Morrisey, who asked her to dinner to win a bet. Cal Morrisey knows commitment is impossible, especially with a woman as cranky as Min Dobbs. When they say good-bye at the end of their evening, they cut their losses and agree never to see each other again.
But Fate has other plans, and it’s not long before Min and Cal are dealing with meddling friends, wedding cake, a jealous ex-boyfriend, Krispy Kremes, a determined psychologist, chaos theory, a frantic bride, Chicken Marsala, a mutant cat, snow globes, two Mothers-from-Hell, great shoes, and more risky propositions than either of them ever dreamed of including the biggest gamble of all–unconditional love.

One day as I was surfing Amazon, looking through my recommended books, I came across Jennifer Cruise. I’d never read anything by her, but her books sounded interesting, so I picked up Bet Me and let me just tell you that I am sooo glad I did!

We first meet the frumpy, but ever so delectable Min at the bar, sandwiched between her two beautiful friends, moments after she has been dumped. Her friends begin to pressure her about getting “back in the saddle” and finding herself someone. Her friends spy the delicious Cal from across the bar, and practically shove Min his way.

Cal ends up asking Min to dinner, to win a bet, and the two can’t stop arguing. They amicably part ways, secretly thinking the other is somewhat crazy. Hilarious and crazy situations ensure, promising the reader tons and tons of laughs, while Mil and Cal go on a journey of unusual courtship and eventually find love.

I was totally blown away by Cruise. I loved the writing style, the fabulous one-liners, and hysterical situations. I frequently found myself laughing out loud, thoroughly enjoying all the quirky moments. The romance was sizzling hot, and I don’t think I will ever be able to look at a chocolate glazed Krispy Kreme donut the same, EVER AGAIN. *fans self*

Min and Cal are both great characters, total opposites in almost every way. They were written great, with a phenomenal set of supporting characters who provided the entire book with even more comedic relief. The snarky best friends, the two equally insane mothers, the set of jealous ex’s who try anything and everything to break them up. It was all done so great, I can’t wait to go out and find another Cruise book.

All in all, I give Bet Me 5 out of 5 bets!

Sanctuary Price by Moira Rogers

After a decade under a corrupt alpha's thumb, Dylan Gennaro is still reeling from the changes in his life: a new home, a new alpha, a pack at war. Even normal things like an ending relationship. Still, when he's asked to work with an outcast witch, he agrees without hesitation. Maybe by protecting her, he'll rediscover his own inner strength. If, indeed, it exists.

Sasha Wallace lost her mentor in a vicious attack that left her scarred in spirit as well as body. While she's grateful for the refuge offered by the Red Rock alpha, it's tough living with the pack's suspicion. Even though--or maybe because--she's willing to use her powers to help them fight their war. Except for Dylan. When she's finally free to find a new home, he'll be the only one she regrets leaving behind.

Their attraction is a balm to their wounded hearts, until their journey for knowledge brings them face to face with a terrifying vampire. Neither has the strength for this fight--but if they can let go of their pasts and trust each other, they might just be able to do it. Together.

Warning: Contains dangerous magical binding spells, a flannel-wearing vampire lumberjack, paranormal road-trip hijinks and a quietly brilliant werewolf willing to defy his society and his past to protect the witch he loves.

The dynamic duo of Bree & Donna who make up Moira Rogers have done it again! I found Moira Rogers through another blog, won one of their books, and haven’t looked back since.

Sanctuary Price is the 3rd book in the Red Rocks Pass series about a werewolf Sanctuary. After the first two books in this series that featured ass kicking Alpha males, and the strong willed females they love, the third book takes a small turn.

Dylan is not a strong Alpha, and has lived the majority of his werewolf life under a corrupt and immoral alpha. He breaks off and seeks Sanctuary at Red Rocks where he is working to get over his own insecurities about his new life. At the end of the 2nd book, Sanctuary Lost Dylan encounter Sasha, a human witch who was recently attacked my werewolves and was forced to watch her mentor mauled to death. Dylan and Sasha formed an alliance against their enemy, and ended up defeating him together.

Now, they are forced to face yet another foe, only think one is unknown and across the country. As they set off on their journey, they must learn to trust one another and the attraction between them.

Although this wasn’t my favorite Red Rocks story (I don’t know what it is about Alpha Cavemen kind of guys that just really does it for me…) I really enjoyed the change of pace. Although Dylan isn’t the guns blazing kind of hero, he is still protective of those he loves, and not afraid to share himself with Sasha. I love that Rogers’ showed how two somewhat scarred people can really pull through together, and help heal each others wounds, both internally and externally.

We also get a chance to finally meet our hero of the 4th Red Rocks installment, Sanctuary Unbound, which releases on June 1st!! Adam is the very secretive vampire lumberjack, who will be coming to Red Rock to help Sanctuary fight off their newest foe. I can’t wait for this release!!

All in all, I give Sanctuary Price 4 out of 5 Alpha werewolves!

Skin Game by Ava Gray AKA Ann Aguirre

A beautiful fugitive—wanted dead or alive.

Kyra is a con woman and a particular kind of thief. She steals with a touch, but she only takes one thing: her target’s strongest skill. Which means she can be a fighter, an athlete, a musician, an artist—anything she wants… for a limited time. Heartbroken, she turns her gift toward avenging her father’s murder; with deadly patience, Kyra works her way into casino owner Gerard Serrano’s inner circle. After pulling off the ultimate con, she flees with his money and his pride.

A hit man who never misses the mark.

Reyes has nothing but his work. Pity for Kyra, he’s the best and mercy never sways him once he takes a job. He’s been hired to find out where Kyra hid the cash—and bring her back to face Serrano’s “justice.” Dead will do, if he can’t locate the loot. He’s never failed to complete a contract, but Kyra tempts him with her fierce heat and her outlaw heart. So Reyes has a hell of a choice: forsake his word or kill the woman he might love.

Skin Game is the first in the Skin Series by Ava Gray. (AKA: Ann Aguirre. Make it a point to check out her Sci Fi and Urban Fantasy Series, they ROCK!) With the upcoming release of Skin Tight (June 1st) featuring the ever so delectable Foster *sigh* and Mia, I thought now would be a good time to take a closer look at the beginnings of their story.

Skin Game starts with one of the best opening lines I’ve ever read: “Kyra held the guy’s balls in the palm of her hand. Literally.” From this point on, Gray keep the readers engaged with strong desires, crazy scenarios, and lots of action.

Kyra has the unique ability to acquire the strongest skill of any person she comes in contact with, making her job as a con woman easier. While pulling a job, she encounters Reyes, who helps her out of a sticky little situation, and agrees to let him hitch a ride. One passion leads to another, the two tumble into a sweaty (and incredibly smexy) night together.

We soon find out that Reyes is not what we expected, and that he was sent out by the ego heavy Serrano and his Chief of Security Foster, to work his hit man magic on Kyra. But as the two travel together in Kyra’s pride and joy, her car “Myrna”, from dive bar to dive bar running cons on those they come across, feelings get in the way of work, and the real magic begins.

I love how Gray is able to keep little tidbits of secrets on each character through out the story, and layer by layer we find out more and more as the story progresses. Kyra is such an incredible character, a total ball buster, with a super sweet feminine side. I love that she is somewhat insecure with the way she was raised and a little upset about her inability to connect with people, especially on a physical level. It makes her that much more real. Reyes is such an alpha man *drool*, but struggles internally with his decision about how to handle himself and the situation as he gets to know more about Kyra and the truth about the con that got her on his hit list in the first place.

The secondary characters, especially Foster, were also great. Serrano was super crazy, and his ego was almost too big to fit in the book. Mia was sweet and hopefully not too screwed up after her brief but intense encounter with life as a criminal. I just know that she and Foster are going to be explosive together. And Foster *sigh*, what can I say about Foster other than I can’t wait to find out more about his secrets. Is he undercover? Is he some kind of vigilante? Does he have some kind of crazy ability? What’s the deal with his family? Oh the secrets that are left to be uncovered…

All in all, I give Skin Game 5 out of 5 con jobs!

Big Reader, Small Budget

If you are anything like me, I love to read. We’re talking one book every day or so. That is a LOT of books. It also adds up on the budget front. For those of us who can’t afford to spend big bucks every day to keep up our book habits, look no further!! Below are some of the things I’ve done to supplement my budget.

1. Use the library!!

If you do not have a library card to your local library, you are totally missing out. The library is a great way to read all those books at no cost. Plus, many libraries are now starting to catch up with the times. I personally am a HUGE fan of my local library. They have branches all across the city, their website is super easy to use, I can reserve books and have them delivered to the library of my choice, and they even offer digital downloads. So, for the OCD reader in me, I can have up to 15 titles reserved on my library card, at least 25 checked out at any time, and up to 5 digital copies for my e-reader.

2. Check your local area for Library Sales and/or used book stores

Here in Tucson, we have an organization known as the Friends of the Library. They have huge sales every few months, and offer some incredible deals on old library and donated books. Not too long ago I went on their half priced day. They were pricing hardcover books at 50 cents and paperbacks at a quarter. I walked out that afternoon with 18 books for under $5.00! It was a killing on my part. Sure some of the books have the library stickers on them, and some books did look somewhat ratty, but at that price, can you really afford to complain? Plus, the used book store in town has a huge selection, at discounted prices. Plus I can trade in some of my older books for store credit!

3. Check out free eBooks

Many of the different eBook retailers have specials where they are frequently selling eBooks for free. Take Barnes & Noble for example (and because I have their nook and constantly stalk their website), every Friday they add a new free eBook for a limited time. Sometimes the books are good, sometimes they don’t really interest me. But, their free! Many of the books I’ve gotten were free books from B&N, Amazon, Fictionwise, Sony, AllRomanceEbooks, etc. You just have to be diligent about looking.

4. Find websites that offer free eBooks

There are tons of websites out there that offer free eBooks. The Guttenberg project for one provides tons and tons of classics. Google Books has millions of titles as well. Websites like Smashwords.com, FreeEbooks.com, and many others provide free eBooks in many different formats. A simple google search can lead to a goldmine of books. Some might not be of the highest quality, but there are tons of diamonds in the rough out there!

5. Check with your favorite authors

Some of my favorite authors post short stories through their websites that can be downloaded as a pdf and read at any time. Other times authors will release short stories through their blog. Take the chance and read them! They usually turn out to be great short stories.

6. Borrow from your friends

Chances are if you’re an avid reader, you have some friends who are too. Borrow from them, check out what their interests are, and borrow away. *Special tip though: keep track of your books and who you’ve loaned them too, just in case!*

7. Swap books

There are places out there where you can register to join a book swap. I know tons of people who participate in paperbackswap.com where you log in, select books you want, post books your willing to swap, and pay for postage. I personally have never participated in any of those programs (I don’t like to part with my books), but from those I know who have, they have had great experiences.

These are just a few things I’ve done to help support my book habits. What about you? What kind of things do you do when you run out of the funds, but are desperate for something new to read?

June New Releases

With summer starting, I thought I would put a list together of the books I am looking forward to this June. 2010 is turning out to be an AWESOME year for books. There are so many, but I tried to cut it down to the top 5 I am looking forward to...

#1 - Skin Tight by Ava Gray

Ava Gray is also known as Ann Aguirre, and I am absolutely in love with her UF series about Corine Solomon. As Ava Gray, she writes Paranormal Romances. Skin Tight is all about Foster (ahhh Foster), and her heroine Mia.

Uncovering the truth is her specialty
As a forensic accountant, Mia Sauter could usually tell when people had something to hide. She made her living exposing secrets while concealing her own. Then, in Vegas, she met a clever, ruthless man who called himself Addison Foster. One year later, she’s still haunted by his betrayal.

He’s a natural born liar
The truth of him had long ago been buried. Foster was only one name of many; he’d been so many men, he’d lost count. Reinvented as Thomas Strong and hell-bent on revenge, his mission is about to be compromised by the one woman capable of exposing him…

Reunited, they confront the explosive chemistry still crackling between them. But their chance meeting will have consequences, for a ruthless madman has his own deadly agenda. The question is—if they survive the fallout, will he choose love over vengeance?

#2 - Fatal Circle by Linda Robertson

Fatal Circle is book 3 in the Persephone Alcmedi series. I love the world Robertson created, and can't wait to discover more about Seph and the ever so delicious Johnny.

Destiny sucks. . . .

There was a time when Persephone Alcmedi thought her life was hard to manage, what with wondering how to make sure she took adequate care of both her grandmother and her foster daughter, Beverley, whether she’d end up in the unwanted position of high priestess of a coven, and whether her wærewolf lover, Johnny, would resist the groupies who hang around his band Lycanthropia.

But that was before the fairies started demanding that Seph’s frightening, unpredictable ally—the ancient vampire Menessos— be destroyed . . . or the world will suffer. Seph and Menessos are magically bonded, but that’s a secret she dares not reveal to her fellow witches lest they be forced to reject her and forbid her use of magic. And, despite the strain this casts on her relationship with Johnny, as a showdown with the fairies nears, she and Menessos badly need the wærewolves as allies.

Life, death, and love are all on the line, but when destiny is calling, it doesn’t help to turn away. With the individual threads of their fates twisted inextricably together, can Seph, Johnny, and Menessos keep the world safe from fairy vengeance?

#3 - Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas

This is the 5th installment of the Hathaway Series, and tells the story of Beatrix. Kleypas is, in my opinion, one of the best regency historical romance writers out there!

Captain Christopher Phelan has been corresponding with the beautiful golden-haired Prudence Mercer while he was away fighting in the Crimean War. What he doesn't know, however, is that the woman who wrote to him is actually Prudence's best friend, Beatrix Hathaway.
Upon his return home to Hampshire, it becomes clear that Christopher's experiences in war have changed him.

#4 - Demon Hunts by C.E. Murphy

C.E. Murphy brings us the 5th book in the Walker Papers series about shaman Joanne Walker. I absolutely LOVE this series. Here's to hoping for Joanne and Morrison!!

Seattle police detective Joanne Walker started the year mostly dead, and she's ending it trying not to be consumed by evil. Literally.

She's proven she can handle the gods and the walking dead. But a cannibalistic serial killer? That's more than even she bargained for. What's worse, the brutal demon can only be tracked one way. If Joanne is to stop its campaign of terror, she'll have to hunt it where it lives: the Lower World, a shamanistic plane of magic and spirits.

Trouble is, Joanne's skills are no match for the dangers she's about to face—and her on-the-job training could prove fatal to the people she's sworn to protect…

#5 - Sanctuary Unbound by Moira Rogers

The fabulous writing duo of Donna and Bree who make up Moira Rogers release the 4the Red Rocks Series with Sanctuary Unbound. Two words to describe the awesomeness that is this book: Vampire Lumberjack!! That is all...

New England is ideal for vampire Adam Dubois. His cozy home in the Great North Woods reminds him of a happier time when werewolves and witches were stuff of legends, and he was a simple lumberjack.

Hiding from past failures has worked for over eighty years, but a life debt owed to the Red Rock alpha has forced him to leave his retreat--and come face to face with a woman who challenges and tempts him on every level.

Hiding secrets is a lonely business, and Cindy Shepherd is lonely with a capital L. Red Rock isn't exactly crawling with available men, but her interest in the mystery-shrouded new vampire in town seems mutual. After all, it's only sex--there's no danger he'll dig deep enough to unleash the demons of her past.

Casual flirtation turns deadly serious when Adam discovers that the vampire plaguing Red Rock is using his mistakes as a road map. When it comes to his life, he knows Cindy has his back. But in order to secure the future, they both must trust each other with more--even if it means sacrificing themselves to save everything they hold dear.

This is just part of my to read for June... what about you? Anything your particularly interested in?

Magic Bleeds - BEST BOOK OF 2010!

Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it rose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle—especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community.

When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years—and rode to war at the side of Kate’s father.

This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family…

HOLY CRAP! Ilona & Gordon Andrews do it again. Magic Bleeds is the 4th installment of the awesome Kate Daniels series. When we last left Kate, her relationship with Curran was about to take a turn. Kate promised Curran a naked dinner date, and we started our journey from there. Due to a misunderstanding, the first portion of the book leads fans on an emotional rollercoaster as Kate goes through the difficulties of sorting out her feelings.

Kate quickly gets assigned a crazy case full of rapid spreading diseases, crowds of hysteria, and influential people all around town ending up dead. Kate must work quickly to discover the villain, fight for a relationship with Curran, and take on a new foe who will bring her that much closer to her destiny: taking out the big bad Roland.

Since starting my countdown more than a month ago for this book, I honestly did a little dance at the bookstore when I got a call it came in. I rushed home, and read it cover to cover in one sitting. It definitely does NOT disappoint. This book has everything Urban Fantasy fans love: plenty of fighting, crazy villains, and a love story to die for.

Kate’s new adversary in this book is, in my opinion, the best villain to date. This mysterious person comes on the scene trailing death and destruction. Once Kate unravels the history behind the new foe, the story becomes so much more intense and a little heart breaking. The connection between these two took me completely by surprise, and that is something that does not happen to me often. The fights between these two are well matched, well played, and described in a way that lets the reader into a front row seat at the ring.

The dialog and interchange between Kate and her cast of supporting characters will never cease to amaze me. Andrews’ writing is a great combination of wit, jokes, and seriousness. The one liners had me laughing out loud, and the depth of emotion had me sometimes crying.

Although I would have liked to see more of the “boy wonder” also known as Derek, I thoroughly enjoyed Kate taking on a pet (something she swore never to do), who frequently provided comedic relief throughout. Andrea, Raphael, Jim, and Dali are all back for more, but seem to take more of a back seat role.

I enjoyed the fact that this book really focused on two main aspects: the relationship between Kate & Curran (and can we say HOT HOT HOT!) and the fight between Kate and the villain. The budding romance for Kate & Curran really takes center stage, and I love that Andrews’ makes the two of them so real. They get into arguments, they get pissed at each other, they pick fights, and at the end of the day, the make a decision to try and make it work and they stick to it. It’s real, it’s gritty, and it’s fabulous written.

This book DOES NOT disappoint. Now if only it were 2011, and I could get my hands on Book 5! I guess I will just have to settle with cyber-stalking the blog and forum for whatever scrapes I can get.

All in all, I give Magic Bleeds 5 out of 5 Beast Lords.

Touched by an Alien - Yes Please!

Before we get into the book itself, I would just like to take a minute to go over one of the reasons I picked up this book in the first place (besides Gini being a fellow Arizonian!). The Cover! If we could please just have a moment of silence to admire and drool over the awesomeness that is Dan Dos Santos.

… *angels singing softly in the background* …

You definitely need to take the time to check out his work if you have not before, you can find it here

Anyway….

How can a sexy marketing manager join forces with an Alpha Centauri male in Armani to save the planet-using hairspray, a Mont Blanc pen, and rock n' roll?

Easy...

She's Touched by an Alien

Marketing manager Katherine "Kitty" Katt steps into the middle of what appears to be a domestic dispute turned ugly. And it only gets uglier when the man turns into a winged monster, straight out of a grade-Z horror movie, and goes on a killing spree. Though Kitty should probably run away, she springs into action to take the monster down.

In the middle of the chaos a handsome hunk named Jeff Martini appears, sent by the "agency" to perform crowd control. He's Kitty's kind of guy, no matter what planet he's from. And from now on, for Kitty, things are going to be sexy, dangerous, wild, and out of this world.

Did you like the Men in Black movies? Enjoy reading about kick ass heroines who are smart enough to think their way out of impossible situations? Ever fantasize about working with a group of male models? If so, Touched by an Alien is right up your alley.

We first meet Kitty coming out of the courthouse, having just wrapped up her civic duty. She encounters what appears to be a domestic dispute which quickly turns into a crazy nightmare, complete with a knife-throwing winged psychopath. She quickly comes to terms with her inner (and unknown) crime fighter, pulls out her handy dandy pen, and takes the creature down like a pro.

Enter the ever so delectable Jeff Martini, an Alpha Centauri alien with enough smex appeal to stop anyone dead in their tracks (I’ll take him shaken OR stirred). Kitty soon finds herself sucked into a real life version of Men in Black (frequently making MIB jokes), full with crazy “fugly” monsters, a unique assortment of weapons, and impossible predicaments.

I absolutely adore Kitty; she is witty, intelligent, quick to crack a joke, and yet still a believable and fun character. She makes some mistakes along the way, but that just makes her that much more loveable. Sure there are times when she seems to know things out of the blue, and she sure as hell takes the total 360 of her life in strides, but what super woman wouldn’t?

Martini was such a great “alpha male” character; but still somehow sensitive (probably due to his emphatic powers), and totally supportive. He enjoys watching Kitty really grow into this super agent, and the heat between the two really steams the pages! I enjoyed unraveling the AC secrets, and I enjoy Koch incorporating a real “human” reason for the aliens being on Earth.

The supporting characters are also hilarious and filled with enough personality to support their own stories. The gay, human, ex-Calvin Kline model who manages to become Kitty’s major support and her hilarious and over-protective parents who are constantly butting in and refusing to let their little girl grow up provide some great comedic relief throughout the story.

If your looking for a great light hearted read that will make you crack a smile and occasionally laugh out loud, you definitely need to pick this book up.

All in all, I give Touched by an Alien 4 out of 5 Fuglies!

Savor the Moment - Better late than never...

Wedding baker Laurel McBane is surrounded by romance working at Vows wedding planning company with her best friends Parker, Emma, and Mac. But she's too low-key to appreciate all the luxuries that their clients seem to long for. What she does appreciate is a strong, intelligent man, a man just like Parker's older brother Delaney, on whom she's had a mega-crush since childhood.

But some infatuations last longer than others, and Laurel is convinced that the Ivy League lawyer is still out of her reach. Plus, Del is too protective of Laurel to ever cross the line with her-or so she thinks. When Laurel's quicksilver moods get the better of her-leading to an angry, hot, all-together mind-blowing kiss with Del-she'll have to quiet the doubts in her mind to turn a moment of passion into forever...

Fans of the ever popular Nora Roberts will not be disappointed in the third book of the Bride Quartet Series.

Enter Laurel: sweet girl next door who has always had a huge thing for her BFF Parker’s older brother. Laurel is the owner and operator of one fourth of the Vows wedding planning business, and cake maker extraordinaire. (Can I just say my mouth was watering almost the whole book?! Word to the wise for those of you with a sweet tooth, you might want to have some kind of sweet on hand for when you finish…)

Enter Del: clean cut, rich, and seriously over protective brother to his little sister, and her three adopted BFF’s. Del is upper class, high society big shot lawyer with a crush (which he refuses to admit) on his adoptive sister Laurel.

After a strenuous day of baking and dealing with general wedding craziness, Laurel takes a chance out of misguided anger and frustration, and plops a big one on her girlhood crush. Their relationship starts slow (after the hilarious kidnapping and ransom of Laurel’s favorite pair of Prada shoes) and builds slowly into something neither expected.

I loved so many things about the journey that Laurel and Del’s relationship took. The little details like trying to figure out how to tell their friends, the “smex bet”, the difficulties of others’ prejudices. It was a perfect progression of friends to lovers, and the insecurities that occur on both ends. I also enjoyed that fact that Roberts didn’t include some kind of horrific “I can’t be with you anymore, this can’t work” disaster. Although it worked great in Bed of Roses for Emma & Jack and so many other books, sometimes life really does work out the way we want it to, without disaster and heartache. It was nice to see that for a change.

For fans of this series, Savor the Moment also provides a great sneak peek into both Parker and Malcolm (our heroine & hopeful hero) of the final Bride Quartet book Happily Ever After due out in November of this year. Readers get a glimpse into Mal’s life a little, and he shares a really tender moment with Laurel. As Parker is by far my favorite gal in the series, I can’t wait to see her OCD tendencies come out, take over, and cause some general havoc!

All in all, I give Savor the Moment 5 out of 5 Wedding Cakes!

#1 Most Anticipated

My #1 most anticipated book of 2010 is almost here!! 7 more days until I can get my greedy hands on Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews. From the reviews I've read so far, the 4th installment of the Kate Daniels series will be sure to impress!

The dedicated fans of Kate & Curran should be in for a treat with the further development of their rocky relationship. If you have yet to start this series, it is a MUST READ in my opinion.

Check out Ilona's website here: http://www.ilona-andrews.com.
You can also get a signed pre-order copy of Magic Bleeds from Powell's here: http://www.powells.com/biblio/2-9780441018529-42

Welcome!

I've been debating for some time now to start my own blog. The hubby told me I should go for it, and so here I am... :)

My greatest love in life (besides the hubby) is reading. More than anything I love to read. I'm sure the majority of my posts will be about books I'm excited for, books I've read, books I've bought.... I'm sure you get the picture.

I hope you enjoy!
